Memoir Planning and Writing Support

We are seeking a compassionate and skilled individual to fill the role of Memoir Writing Support. In this position, you will be responsible for providing personalized support to an individual with a disability, empowering them to articulate and document their life experiences through the creation of a memoir.

Responsibilities:

Individualised Writing Support: Offer one-on-one assistance to the individual in navigating the writing process, ensuring their unique voice and perspective are accurately captured. Provide guidance on grammar, structure, and style.

Communication Facilitation: Act as a bridge between the individual and their thoughts, aiding in the expression of memories, emotions, and significant life events through effective writing techniques.

Organisational Skills: Assist in structuring and organising the memoir, helping the individual to chronologically arrange their experiences and create a coherent and compelling narrative.

Grant Application and Fundraising: Take initiative in researching and applying for grants or fundraising opportunities to support the publishing and distribution of the memoir.

Collaboration with Care Team: Work closely with other care team members, including support staff and professionals involved in the individual's life, to ensure a holistic approach to memoir creation and publishing.

Requirements:

Empathy and Patience: Ability to connect with individuals with intellectual disabilities, demonstrating patience and understanding.

Strong Writing Skills: Excellent written communication skills to guide and enhance the individual's writing abilities.

Creativity: Ability to think creatively in adapting writing techniques to suit the individual's needs and abilities.

Respect for Autonomy: A commitment to promoting the individual's autonomy and self-expression throughout the memoir-writing process.

A background in writing, literature, psychology, social work, education, or a related field would be suitable.

A Police background check is required for this role.

Time commitment:

This position is a fixed term of 12 months, with the assumption that the project will be completed at the end of the 12 months.
