"There is no place like home" for palliative patients and their families this whakataukī is all too true as we seek an experienced health care assistant to provide personal health care to patients in their own home.

In this role you can work with a team of specialist palliative care professionals to engage, support and care for patients and families as part of our high quality holistic palliative care services in the community.
What does an average day look like?
This is a full-time rostered role that works independently, in a home setting, to provide the best possible care for the palliative care patients, under the guidance of a Registered Nurse. You will support families/ whanau and caregivers, and administer medication, as directed, in accordance with Hospice West Auckland policy and procedures. You will work an 8-hour day from 11:30am - 8:00pm with the use of a Hospice car for work purposes.
What you will bring to the role.
We are seeking someone who is prepared to use their initiative, be a team player, and who radiates a friendly and kind personality that will excel in creating relationships with patients, whanau and within our close-knit team.
To be successful in this role you will have:
New Zealand Citizenship or Permanent Residency, and be currently living in New Zealand
A full, unrestricted New Zealand Drivers Licence
Minimum of 2 years' experience providing hands on care in one of the following ways:
- at a care facility or residential home
- providing in home palliative care and/or rehabilitation support
Be capable of working independently in a home setting under general supervision of Registered Nurse
Be comfortable working with patients and whanau from diverse communities and in a variety of home situations
Be able to communicate sensitively with patients and family
Physically fit and able to do the role
Have an understanding of Palliative Care and be comfortable caring for people who have a life limiting illness
