Job Title: Lead Clinician Psychiatrist – BRC/ACOS – Adult Inpatient & Community

Introduction:

Be part of New Zealand’s public health sector including this mental health service which has a good international reputation and is renowned academically as being our largest teaching hospital. Mental Health Services work closely in alliance with the University of Auckland and its faculty of Medical and Health Sciences. There is a patient-focused partnership which aims to speed the translation of research from the bench to the bedside. This patient-centred approach underpins the development of their health workforce, informs research strategies, invigorates clinical teaching and ensures that scientific breakthroughs and advances in medical care reach their patients faster.

This is an opportunity to join the high and complex needs service which is comprised of the Buchanan Rehabilitation Center (BRC) and the Assertive Community Outreach Services (ACOS). BRC is a 40 bed inpatient rehabilitation service based in Auckland which provides a therapeutic recovery oriented environment open to people residing in Auckland and the North Shore. BRC accepts referrals of people aged 17 to 65 years although the majority of clients are under age 30. Many present with the complex challenge of both severe mental illness and co-existing drug and/or alcohol problems.

ACOS is a community based clinical service which is open to adults residing in the Auckland area. The team provides assertive treatment and support to people who have a pattern of problematic engagement with services and/or treatment recommendations and a history of high risk during periods of relapse. This is an opportunity to provide medical expertise and clinical leadership in a new role working across two well established and cohesive teams.

Primary Requirements Include but aren’t limited to:

• Registerable with the New Zealand medical Council to practice Psychiatry;

• FRANZCP or equivalent;

• Experience and qualified in working collaboratively with clients, families, multi-disciplinary teams in both inpatient and community settings;

• Keen interest in clinical leadership and service development;

• Excellent working knowledge of the NZ mental health field including relevant legislation, eg the Mental Health Act;

• Three years or more clinical practice in mental health;

• Committed to a multi-cultural practice;

• Sound understanding and commitment to Recovery Principles;

• High standard of English fluency including verbal and written communications;

• PC literacy;

• Able and willing to commit at least 2-3 years to begin with; and

• Meet requirements for a work visa.

Primary job responsibilities include, but aren’t limited to:

• Provide operational clinical leadership to a multi-disciplinary team while maintaining your own clinical caseload;

• Partner with the Clinical Team Leader providing medical leadership on a day-to-day basis across the multi-professional team working within the specialist area of service;

• Contribute to the delivery of mental health services which allows you to thrive professional in providing your clinical expertise and knowledge;

• Provide the Service Clinical Director assurance on the clinical safety of the service;

• Provide support for the Service Clinical Director and Portfolio Performance Manager in achieving the goals of the service group

• Be part of a team which has a strong commitment to collaboration between clients, family, staff and their services;

• Be part of interagency liaison, training while contributing to ongoing service development;

• Be part of an on-call roster;

• Enjoy great support and equally impressive diversity utilising a variety of evidence based therapies and case management;

• Thrive professional in providing your clinical expertise and knowledge to most areas of young peoples’ mental health.

• Be part of a collaborative based team;

• Support clinical case management, leadership, operational, policy and risk management, undertake clinical practice, take responsibility for own aspects of professional development details of which are available via a position description.
